The 2006 Law on Lawyers (Law No. 65/2006/QH11), passed by the National Assembly on June 29, 2006 and effective from January 1, 2007, is the first comprehensive legal document governing the legal profession in Vietnam. The Law was later amended and supplemented in 2012 by Law No. 20/2012/QH13.
The 2006 Law on Lawyers marks an important step in institutionalizing the role of lawyers in a rule-of-law society. It contributes to the protection of justice, human rights, and civil rights, and promotes judicial reform in Vietnam.
